ARMORMAX®

Get advanced, flexible armoring technology for erosion control applications with ARMORMAX.

ARMORMAX is one of the most advanced flexible armoring technologies. That is why civil engineers, stormwater professionals, and contractors use it for severe erosion and surface slope stability challenges. The system uses Engineered Earth Anchors™ and high-performance turf reinforcement mats (HPTRM) such as Pyramat. Through the use of the anchors, ARMORMAX better protects against hydraulic stresses. As a result, the slope stays intact.

What are common applications for ARMORMAX?

  • Protect earthen levees from storm surges and wave over-topping.
  • Provide scour and erosion protection for streams, rivers, and canal banks.
  • Safeguard stormwater channels in arid and semi-arid environments when vegetation densities of less than 30% coverage are anticipated.

For slope stability applications, the system can be further engineered to provide surficial slope stabilization to resist shallow plane failures.

What are the key benefits of laying a turf reinforcement mat?

TRMs serve as an integration matrix for root systems to penetrate and lock in. As a result, they enhance vegetation capabilities for high-velocity applications. Not to mention, TRMs are typically less than half the cost of rock riprap, and 25% the cost of concrete. Furthermore, no heavy installation equipment is required, therefore professionals install them faster and benefit from cost-savings. Maintain most TRMs with standard mowing equipment and benefit from a continuously pleasing, environmentally friendly, and ecologically functional solution.

What are the differences between Standard Duty TRMs and High-Performance TRMs?

Use standard-duty TRMs for moderate erosion control and general vegetation support on slopes, ditches, and swales. Because of their simpler construction, use them for areas with lower erosion risks. In comparison, high-performance TRMs have a more advanced, densely woven polypropylene yarn matrix. As a result, it offers superior reinforcement and interlock for high-risk, high-velocity applications such as steep slopes, high-flow channels, and harsh environments (e.g. arid areas and heavy traffic zones).
